How to Get Rid of Mice

Many people have a problem with mice in their homes, barns, vehicles, farm equipment, and a multitude of other places.  About twenty-eight percent of homes in the United States will buy and use some form of rodent control this year. There are several ways to get rid of mice.  Some are easier than others, and there is a natural, environmentally sound way to get rid of mice and prevent more from coming in.

Fresh Cab®

Fresh Cab® is a great alternative way to get rid of mice.  It is less expensive and longer lasting than peppermint oil, keeps mice from entering spaces in the first place, is much less messy than using traps, and works even if there are mouse-friendly smells in the area.

Fresh Cab® is the only natural rodent repellent that has been tested and labeled as a safe and effective product by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  There are no harmful side effects caused by using this product.  Fresh Cab® is 98% biodegradable, so it’s safe for the environment as well as people and animals.

Made from balsam fir needle essential oils, plant cellulose fiber from corn cobs, and a mixture of additional essential oils, including lemon, grapefruit, cedar wood, and eucalyptus, Fresh Cab® has a pleasant scent.  This scent repels mice, because it confuses them by triggering their escape behavior.  Mice will leave the area on their own.  Mice that are already in the area will leave to avoid the scent.

Seal all Cracks, Holes, and Small Openings

Mice can enter buildings and rooms through openings as small as 1/4”.  Check the area thoroughly to find small cracks and holes that mice might use to gain entry.  This might be difficult in older homes because there are usually many openings big enough for mice to fit through.  A tightly sealed space will prevent mice from getting in and will help you get rid of mice.

Steel Wool in Openings

Steel wool is one of the few materials that mice can’t chew through.  If you place steel wool in mouse holes, they won’t be able to chew their way through to the other side.

Mouse Traps

You can use a spring, glue, or electronic mouse trap to get rid of mice.  Peanut butter and bacon grease are good baits to use with these traps.

Food in Sealed Containers

Make sure you keep any food in tightly sealed containers.  Mice want to hide and nest in places where they know they can get food.  If they can’t smell food, they probably won’t be interested in staying.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil has an intense smell that overpowers the smell of any food in the area.  One or two drops of the oil are placed on several cotton balls.  Placing the cotton balls by doorways, vents, and other mouse entrances will discourage mice from entering.  Downsides to this are it has only been shown in tests to be effective 54% of the time, and requires placement every 30 days, vs 100 days for Fresh Cab.

An Easier Method to Get Rid of Mice

All you need to do is place Fresh Cab® pouches around the areas where mice enter your space.  It doesn’t take much time, and there is never a mess to clean up.  You won’t find an easier way to get rid of mice.
