Live and Love in an Earth Kind Way on this Earth Day
Posted on Monday, April 22, 2013 by Martha the Mouse Detective
Don't be ashamed by these alarming facts. We have all been guilty of littering once or twice, accident or not, and we can't go back to change that. We can, however, change the way we look and feel about our future and the futures of generations to come with this information. Let’s all take a step in the right direction to make this world a better and cleaner place for all of us!

Proving Nature Can Do It Better
Posted on Wednesday, March 27, 2013
What's  that  smell? This  question  can  go  one  of  two  ways.   It  is  either  embarrassing,  offensive,  and  a  cause  for  distress  if  it  is  in  reference  to  an  unpleasant  odor.   Or  it  can  be  a  great  compliment  if  referring  to  a  pleasant  fragrance  or  appealing  aroma.   Even  the  words  we  use  to  refer  to  the  same  subject  can  influence  your  feelings  one  way  or  another  such  as  saying  odor  vs.  aroma.  You  probably  wouldn't  think  it's  a  good  idea  to  fill  your  home  with  toxic  chemicals,  but  that  is  usually  what  happens  when  you  grab  an  air  freshener.   Whether  you  are  trying  to  ...

Story of an Owl Killed by Rat Poison
Posted on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by Earth-Kind
When you put out poison to get rid of mice, you are also putting area pets in harm as well as many birds that will eat the dead or dying rodent. The poison you laid out to get rid of the mouse can also kill the neighbor’s dog or cat or a wonderful bird of prey like owls, hawks and even bald eagles.

Peppermint Oil for Mice - Does it Really Work?
Posted on Friday, January 18, 2013 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
DIY  is  more  than  just  some  trendy  acronym.   Saving  money,  making  greener  choices,  or  just  getting  that  sense  of  accomplishment  from  doing  something  yourself  are  only  a  few  reasons  DIY  books,  websites,  magazines,  and  TV  shows  have  earned  a  place  in  our  lives.   Have  you  tried  getting  rid  of  rats  yourself?   Do  you  want  to  know  how  to  get  rid  of  mice  the  DIY  way?   We've  got  the  answer  and  its  easy,  inexpensive,  and  effective. Searching  the  internet  is  a  great  place  to  start  when  you  want  to  do  something  yourself  -  that's  probably  how  you  found  this  page.   The  trick  is  ...

Try These Surprising Uses For Failed Methods of Mouse Control
Posted on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
After  solving  your  rodent  problems  with  Fresh  Cab  Natural  Rodent  Repellent,  you  may  find  yourself  wondering  what  to  do  with  those  ineffective  methods  of  mouse  control  after  you  no  longer  need  them?   While  some  products  should  be  handled  carefully  and  disposed  of  properly  such  as  poisons,  other  products  can  be  repurposed.  Snap  traps Here  is  a  clever  quote  we  found  that  may  solve  2  problems  at  once:   "A  mouse  trap  placed  on  top  of  your  alarm  clock  will  prevent  you  from  rolling  over  and  going  back  to  sleep."   We  don't  know  who  said  that,  and  we  wouldn't  really  recommend  doing  it,  but  it  ...

Can Getting Rid of Rats & Mice Be Good For the Environment Too?
Posted on Wednesday, November 07, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
Reduce.   Reuse.   Recycle.   These  3  R's  of  the  environment are  just  3  small  steps  we  can  each  take  to  help  make  our  world  a  better  place.   A  Native  American  proverb  states,  "We  do  not  inherit  the  Earth  from  our  ancestors,  we  borrow  it  from  our  children."   These  are  words  to  remember  in  everything  that  we  do.  Earth-Kind  was  created  with  the  goal  of  finding  natural  solutions  to  natural  problems  while  being  kind  to  the  Earth,  kind  to  the  people  and  pets  who  make  and  use  our  productsoffer  superior  value  for  the  consumer.   By  following  the  3  R's,  we  are  able  to  stay  true  to  ...

Behind the Labels - What it Means to be Certifiably Green
Posted on Monday, October 29, 2012 by Kari Warberg Block
People  care  about  the  environment  and  are  trying  to  make  better  choices  for  the  earth.   Business  owners,  sales  people,  and  marketing  departments  have  cottoned  on  to  this  trend  and  are  slapping  labels  on  every  product  and  package  they  can  to  make  it  sound  more  eco-friendly,  hoping  you'll  buy  what  they're  selling.   In  some  instances,  market  offerings  truly  are  changing  to  reflect  customer  desires  and  the  products  that  are  available  are  in  fact  better  for  the  user  and  the  environment,  both  in  the  manner  they  are  produced  and  because  of  the  ingredients  used  to  make  them.   Unfortunately,  some  products  are  just  labeled  ...

September 21st is International Day of Peace: Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future
Posted on Friday, September 21, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
International  Day  of  Peace  has  been  recognized  since  1982.   Observed  on  September  21st,  it  is  a  day  when  people  are  asked  to  observe  a  ceasefire  from  all  forms  of  violence  and  conflict.   This  ceasefire  can  be  crucial  in  war-torn  areas  as  it  gives  humanitarian  aid  a  chance  to  reach  those  who  need  it  most,  but  it  can  be  observed  and  make  a  difference  in  everyday  life  for  people  in  areas  not  affected  by  war  or  widespread  violence  as  well.  Imagine  the  impact  of  a  day  without  conflict.   On  your  morning  drive  to  school  or  work,  there  could  be  no  honking  horns,  obscene  ...

Earth-Kind CEO Shares 3 Tips For A Work-Kind Culture
Posted on Friday, August 31, 2012 by Kari Block, Earth-Kind Farmer in Charge
I  have  to  admit  that  one  of  the  most  rewarding  aspects  of  running  a  business  is  the  effect  that  you,  as  a  leader,  have  on  the  workforce  and  their  families. Here’s  what  I’ve  learned:  Happy  workers  =  happy  customers=  business  success. It’s  a  bottom-up  approach  to  leading  that  consistently  creates  sustainable  business  success  for  us  at  Earth-Kind,  and  other  socially  focused  companies  like  7th  Generation,  Devine  Chocolate,  and  MoJo  Roast.   This  approach  has  never  failed  in  all  three  companies  I’ve  founded. It’s  a  simple  business  philosophy,  not  one  based  on  complex  formulas,  or  the  newest  management  theory. To  explain  in  more  detail:  I  serve  our  ...

An Important Reminder About Pet Safety & Rodent Control for Hot Summer Days
Posted on Friday, August 17, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
During  these  dog  days  of  summer,  it  can  be  hard  to  think  of  anything  but  finding  some  relief  from  the  heat.   We  can't  be  consumed  by  our  own  quest  for  comfort  though,  we  must  remember  that  we  are  not  the  only  ones  experiencing  these  extremes.   Extreme  heat  also  poses  serious  health  risks  for  our  furry  friends.  Like  us,  they  are  at  risk  of  dehydration  and  heat  exhaustion.   Young  puppies  and  kittens  (less  than  6  months  of  age),  geriatric  pets,  and  overweight  pets  are  especially  at  risk  of  heat  related  illness.   The  Iowa  Veterinary  Medical  Association  has  more  information  about  how  heat  affects  ...

Lean, Mean, & All About Green: How Earth-Kind Lives Up to its Name
Posted on Thursday, August 16, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
Just  because  a  product  works  does  not  always  mean  that  you  as  a  consumer  want  to  give  your  hard  earned  dollars,  your  endorsement,  or  your  loyalty  to  the  company  that  makes  it.   We  are  proud  to  offer  products  that  work,  but  we  also  want  to  build  relationships  with  our  customers  that  extend  beyond  a  basic  transaction.   One  of  the  ways  Earth-Kind  and  our  Farmer  in  Charge,  Kari  Block,  sets  out  to  build  these  relationships  is  by  sticking  fast  to  a  core  set  of  values:   Lean,  Mean,  and  All  About  Green.  We  make  sure  we  are  lean  by  continually  improving  every  aspect  of  ...

Natural Air Fresheners and Car Safety
Posted on Monday, June 04, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
Driving  a  car  is  something  most  people  don't  even  think  about,  we  consider  it  a  necessity.   Whether  you  live  in  a  city,  and  just  like  the  freedom  and  independence  of  having  your  own  vehicle,  or  if  you  live  in  a  rural  area  where  the  distance  and  lack  of  public  transportation  make  it  essential,  many  of  us  wouldn't  want  to  imagine  life  any  other  way.   Since  many  people  spend  a  significant  amount  of  time  in  their  vehicles,  they  find  numerous  ways  to  make  them  more  comfortable.   Steering  wheel  and  seat  covers  can  make  it  feel  nicer  inside  and  look  a  little  more  ...

Earth-Kind Celebrates Earth Day All Year Round
Posted on Monday, April 23, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
Since  1970,  April  22  has  been  widely  known  as  Earth  Day.   Inspired  by  Vietnam  protests,  Wisconsin  Senator  Gaylord  Nelson  sought  to  organize  a  "teach-in"  about  environmental  concerns,  hoping  to  channel  the  energy  of  a  generation  of  protesters  toward  creating  national  awareness  and  policy  to  protect  the  environment.   It  worked.   After  Earth  Day  1970,  the  Environmental  Protection  Agency  (EPA)  was  created,  along  with  the  Clean  Air,  Clean  Water,  and  Endangered  Species  Acts.    Earth  Day  has  since  become  one  of  the  largest  and  most  widely  celebrated  days,  with  more  than  half  a  billion  people  observing  it  each  year.   Earth  Day  Network,  founded  by  Dennis  ...

Earth-Day Greeting from Kari Block, Earth-Kind farmer in charge
Posted on Saturday, April 21, 2012 by Kari Block
Greeting  customers,  friends,  and  Fresh  Cab  community!  Earth-Day  is  the  perfect  time  to  share  why  I  started  this  company,  rather  than  just  how  we  are  ‘green’  or  earth  friendly. Being  green  is  secondary  really. I  think  every  successful,  lasting  company,  is  built  first  from  a  vision  that  encompasses  the  why,  as  much  as  the  how  and  what. Here’s  my  why: I  wanted  to  create  a  NEW  kind  of  company. A  company  that  would  solve  natural  problems  in  a  natural  way.  Without  the  use  of  poisons,  or  plastics  in  formulations  or  packaging.  I’ve  always  questioned  myself  why  I  would  buy  a  product  that  runs  out  in  a  weeks,  ...

What is an ECO CEO?
Posted on Friday, April 13, 2012 by Rita Stadler, Earth-Kind Retail Outreach Coordinator
With  a  name  like  Earth-Kind,  it  should  be  obvious  that  we're  all  about  being  green  and  finding  natural  solutions  to  natural  problems.   While  we  were  kicking  around  ideas  recently,  a  team  member  pointed  out  how  close  the  all  important  term  CEO  is  to  another  key  concept,  ECO.   Here  at  Earth-Kind,  we  focus  on  being  both  economically  and  ecologically  kind.   When  we  brought  this  up  to  Kari,  our  very  own  Eco-CEO,  she  elaborated  by  saying,  "In  the  true  green  world,  it  means  as  much...HOW  we  do  business,  as  it  does  WHY  we  do  business."   She  went  on  to  say  that  how  we  ...

Earth-Kind's Non-Toxic Air Fresheners Bring the Scent of Home
Posted on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 by Martha the Mouse Detective
So,  this  last  week  I  stayed  at  my  in-laws  house  for  a  couple  days  while  I  was  in  town.  I  always  enjoy  getting  away  from  the  normalcy  of  everyday  life  and  doing  something  a  little  different.   I  brought  my  luggage  down  to  the  guest  room  where  I  would  be  staying  and  was  instantly  taken  by  the  scent  of  something  very  familiar.    I  knew  right  away  that  it  was  Earth-Kind’s  All  Natural  Air  Fresheners,  just  like  I  use  in  my  house.   The  little  pouch  hung  on  a  dresser  knob  a  couple  feet  away  from  the  bed,  and  I  couldn't  get  enough  of  the  ...
