I
have
to
admit
that
one
of
the
most
rewarding
aspects
of
running
a
business
is
the
effect
that
you,
as
a
leader,
have
on
the
workforce
and
their
families.
Here’s
what
I’ve
learned:
Happy
workers
=
happy
customers=
business
success.
It’s
a
bottom-up
approach
to
leading
that
consistently
creates
sustainable
business
success
for
us
at
Earth-Kind,
and
other
socially
focused
companies
like
7th
Generation,
Devine
Chocolate,
and
MoJo
Roast.
This
approach
has
never
failed
in
all
three
companies
I’ve
founded.
It’s
a
simple
business
philosophy,
not
one
based
on
complex
formulas,
or
the
newest
management
theory.
To
explain
in
more
detail:
I

Here
at
Earth-Kind,
we
like
to
promote
prevention.
It
is
always
easier
to
prevent
a
mouse
infestation
than
it
is
to
correct
one.
The
3
key
tenets
you
have
heard
or
will
hear
from
us
on
this
topic
are:
Clean
Up
-
Remove
rodent
attractants
such
as
food
and
cover.
Seal
Up
-
Seal
potential
rodent
entry
points.
Pouch
Up
-
Protect
area
with
Fresh
Cab
Natural
Rodent
Repellent
pouches.
These
3
"simple"
steps
will
surely
reduce,
if
not
eliminate,
the
odds
of
an
infestation.
I
put
quotes
around
the
word
'simple'
for
a
reason
though.
What
if
you
happen
to
live
with
a
pack

Having
a
mouse
in
the
house
is
a
problem
that
affects
more
than
half
the
population.
While
there
are
many
different
ways
to
deal
with
rodent
problems,
many
people
are
looking
for
a
natural,
poison
free
solution
to
this
problem.
Consider
these
points
to
protect
your
family,
pets,
property,
and
get
rid
of
mice.
A
Sense
of
urgency-
If
you
see
or
hear
one
mouse,
there
are
almost
certainly
more
that
you
don't
see!
The
problem
needs
immediate
attention.
Concern
for
safety-
Traditional
methods
of
mouse
control
such
as
traps
or
poisons
can
be
dangerous
to
people
or
pets
in
your
home.
Fresh

How
do
you
know
if
you're
buying
the
right
pest
control
product
for
mice?
When
it
comes
to
rodent
repellents,
you
want
to
be
sure
that
what
you're
getting
is
right
for
you
and
your
family.
Most
people
don't
think
about
this
because
they
just
want
to
get
rid
of
their
rodent
problem
and
NOW!
Did
you
know
that
in
2011
there
were
6,875
pets
harmed
by
rodenticides,
and
those
were
just
the
cases
that
got reported!
This
doesn't
just
happen
from
ingesting
the
poison
itself,
but
also
from
ingesting
the
rodent
that
ate
the
poison
as
well.
Rodent
poisons

I
know
I
spend
most
of
our
time
here
talking
about
how
to
get
rid
of
a
mouse
in
the
house,
but
right
now,
I
am
busy
busy
busy
getting
ready
for
a
family
vacation
to
the
House
of
Mouse.
Yes,
I
mean
Walt
Disney

While
I
am
normally
on
high
alert
for
the
sight
of
a
mouse,
I
am
now
anxiously
anticipating
the
sight
of
mouse
ears!
As
a
family
of
5
(soon
to
be
6),
a
trip
to
the
happiest

on

sounds
like
a
dream
come

to

although

Do
you
hear
what
I
hear?
The
sound
of
school
bells
ringing!
Back
to
school
is
an
exciting
time
of
year
for
kids
and
adults
alike.
Adults
are
eager
for
their
children
to
learn
new
things
and
progress
to
the
next
level
of
their
education
and
development
while
kids
can't
wait
to
see
their
friends
and
resume
school

activities.
Some
families
are
way
ahead
of
the
curve
and
already
had
all
of
the
new
school
year's
supplies
ready
months

others

last

latter
category,

During
these
dog

it
can
be
hard
to

of
anything

finding

relief
from
the

We
can't
be
consumed
by
our

quest
for

though,
we

that
we

Extreme

Just
because
a
product
works
does
not
always
mean
that

want

your

of
the

I
had
the
honor
of
attending
a
dear
friend's
wedding
this
past
weekend.
While
I
was
standing
near
the
bride,
I
overheard
another
guest,
an
older
lady,
complaining
to
the
bride
about
a
mouse
in
her
house
and
how
she
was
too
afraid
to
go
home
alone.
She
was
trying
to
convince
the
happy
couple
to
come
stay
with
her...on
their
wedding
night
of
all
nights!
Fortunately,
I
swooped
in
with
my
mouse
detective
know-how
and
saved
the
bride
from
an
awkward
situation.
After
discussing
the
matter
with
the

a

more,
she

me
that
she

We
love
dogs!
We're
pretty
big
fans
of
any
furry,
feathered,
four-legged
or
any
kind
of
animal
friend
actually.
During
a
recent
team
meeting,
the
question
of
"Do
you
have
a
pet?"
was
asked
all
around
and
not
surprisingly,
every
member
of
the
Earth-Kind
team
shares
their
home
and
their
heart
with
at
least
one
member
of
the
animal
kingdom!
That
may
be
part
of
the
reason
why
we
take
pet
safety
so
seriously.

I
was
recently
visiting
my
parents
and
in
the
midst
of
helping
my
mom
find
something
in
the
garage,
I
let
out
a
gasp
filled
with
shock
and
horror.
I
had
spotted
a
box
of
rat
poison
on
a
shelf!
I
said
in
my
most
appalled
voice,
"Don't
you
know
where
I
work?!?"
Mom
said
"Yes,"
and
went
on
to
explain
that
Fresh
Cab
didn't
work.
I
was
still
stunned
that
she
had
resorted
to
a
poison
without
ever
mentioning
to

she
had
a

a

Since
ancient
times,
athleticism
and
competition
have
held
a
certain
allure
for
people.
The
qualities
of
an
athlete
are
undoubtedly
beneficial
to
the
survival
of
a
species.
Stronger,
faster,
more
agile
members
of
any
species
are
more
apt
to
survive
and
procreate,
passing
on
their
abilities
to
their
offspring
and
perpetuating
the
cycle.
Competition
is
inherent
in
the
mate
selection
process
of
all
species,
choosing
a
mate
who
demonstrates
qualities
that
will
best
ensure
the
survival
of
the
species,
but
humans
have
additional
reasons
to
compete.
Humans
enjoy
recognition
as
the
best
of
their
kind
for
whatever
their
talent
may
be.
